Supplier Verification

I worked as a Product Manager for this feature during my tenure at Truck Lagbe. We discovered that the supplier onboarding team at Truck Lagbe was experiencing difficulties in verifying TL Owner App users.

Context

What is Truck Lagbe?

Truck Lagbe, meaning "Do you need a truck?" in Bangla, launched in 2017 with just 25 trucks and has transformed Bangladesh's trucking industry.

It connects truck seekers and truck service providers, making bookings instant and easy. Now with over 80,000 trucks and 1,000,000+ customers, it ensures safe, anytime delivery to any destination.

The platform also offers GPS tracking and insurance, promoting safety and transparency for the trucking community. Truck Lagbe aims to integrate all trucking services into a single, user-friendly platform, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for all trucking needs.

Challenge

Where does it breakdown?

The TL Owner, the service provider's app of Truck Lagbe is for truck drivers and owners. Previously, anyone could sign up without verification. However, before bidding on or accepting trips, users had to verify their truck by providing legal documents and a driving license.

Truck drivers who own their vehicles could use their license for verification, satisfying the requirement. However, truck owners who are not drivers needed to provide their driver’s license during vehicle verification, preventing their own account verification.

‍Here's the old truck verification journey at Truck Lagbe Owner App -

  • In reviewing our truck verification process with the onboarding and legal teams at Truck Lagbe, we found that personal identification is not needed for truck verification.
  • Conversations with truck owners and drivers revealed that trucks and drivers are often interchanged based on availability.
  • To streamline the process, we will separate driver and vehicle verification and eliminate the driving license requirement from the vehicle enlistment section in the Truck Lagbe Owner App.

Objective

Improve user verification to boost efficiency, reduce fraud, and increase trip completion rate.

Success Metrics

How to measure the wins?
  • Verification Completion Rate: Percentage of users who successfully complete the new verification process compared to the total number of new sign-ups.
  • Incident Reduction Rate: Decrease in the number of service-related issues or disputes related to user credibility and trust, tracked before and after the verification framework launch.

Ideation

How do we verify a user?

At this stage, we are exploring potential methods for user verification, considering various options to optimize the process and meet user needs effectively. Here are the viable options we are evaluating:

Based on our observations, we’ve chosen to eliminate driving license and passport verification process and decided to go for -

National ID card

But we also identified some drawbacks with National ID card verification approach, which we addressed as -

  • Porichoy requires only the National ID number, date of birth, and a selfie. Uploading a National ID photo can be optional if users have their ID number.
  • To manage costs and reduce spam, users get three verification attempts before a 24-hour cooldown.
  • We'll monitor failed attempts daily, with reports sent to the Training & Onboarding team for support and the Data Analysis team to identify spam patterns.

Route Optimizer

Creating effective route plans is crucial yet time-consuming for territory managers like 26-year-old Rakib Hasan. Responsible for optimizing operations and meeting sales targets, Rakib struggles with balancing costs, updating routes, and significant planning time.

By verifying supply partners in compliance with Bangladesh Government rules, we gained customer trust and investor interest, reducing fraud by 30% and increasing the trip completion rate by 35%.
